Some Fashion Takeaways From the ‘Sex and the City’Reboot

When HBO Max announced the “Sex and The City” spinoff and released the first promotional image from “And Just Like That…” in early July last year, fans and fashion observers have been discussing the returning characters’ looks, without Kim Cattrall’s Samantha of course.

Is Carrie Bradshaw going to be like her stylish old self? What about Miranda’s silver-gray hair? Is Charlotte still the same prim and proper lady in her dresses and designer handbag?  Sex and The City was on HBO from 1998 to 2004 and this highly popular drama centers around female sexuality, friendship and modern-day womanhood. This series has redefined how fashion could play in a TV series and influenced how we all dress up along the way.  With the spinoff, fashion once again plays center stage.

When AJLT made its debut on Dec. 9, fashion fans eagerly waited with bated breath for the return of Carrie, Miranda, Charlotte. Everyone looked forward to seeing the lives of the characters after 20 years but honestly, most of us just couldn’t wait to see what they would be wearing. We can safely say that AJLT has not disappointed fans with its fashion. The 3 main characters have delivered some standout fashion moments that make references to the beloved pieces from the original show such as Carrie’s wedding shoes, the Prada bag, the iconic belt, blue flower brooch and more.

The Manolo Blahnik Wedding Shoes

Carrie brought out her beloved blue satin Manolo pumps to wear to Charlotte’s daughter’s piano recital.

The Purple Fendi Baguette

After Mr. Big’s death, Carrie returned to her West Village apartment and wore an oversized tulle skirt with a striped sweater.  She paired the look with her iconic Fendi purple sequinedFollowing Mr Big’s death and her return to her West Village apartment, Bradshaw seemingly went back to her fashion roots, wearing an oversize tulle white skirt paired with a striped sweater.

She again dips into her fashion archives by pairing the look with her iconic Fendi purple sequined baguette bag, which made an appearance in the original series’ third season in a memorable scene where Bradshaw gets mugged on the street.

The Versace Dress

In episode eight, Carrie brought back another beloved piece from the original “Sex and the City” series- the Versace “Mille Feuille” dress that she wore in the original show’s two-part series finale. The dress made its appearance while Bradshaw was in Paris with her then-boyfriend Aleksandr Petrovsky, who coined the dress’ name because of its many tulle layers. Now, the dress returns during the scene where Carrie was going through her fashion archives and brought out to show Patel saying that she only wore the gown twice.
